5 Ways to Improve Your Credit Score

Improving your credit score is a process which takes time.  Even with the best methods, tactics, and systems it takes time to see improvement.  The following ideas will have a positive effect on your score.  You can choose to do any number of them as they are really just good money habits you should develop anyway.

1.       Budget Your Income

A lot of credit problems can be avoided by the simple process of budgeting your income.  Just the activity of organizing your expenditures into proper areas will give you a good idea of where your money needs to go, how much disposable income you have, and what you can afford to pay in monthly charges.

Once you have a budget you will be able to start developing a record of where you spent your money.  This will help you to cut your expenses, keep you from overextending yourself financially, and help you get out of debt faster.

2.       Pay Your Bills on Time

If you want to improve your credit scores it is important to not add additional negative items to your credit report.  Most companies report late payments to the credit burrows so it is common sense to avoid any new negative items from finding there way onto your report.  If you find it hard to keep track of when all the payments are due you could try:

·         Choose one day of the month to pay all your bills

·         Keep a monthly calendar and record all bill payment due dates

·         Pay bills which come in the mail immediately upon receiving them

When you find yourself short on money at bill paying time contact the companies which are effected as soon as possible to ask for an extension.  Also ask them to not report your payment as a late payment to the credit burrows.

3.       Save Some Money

Society today is filled with products and services which provide immediate gratification.  As a result people feel that if they don’t get instant results from a product or service it is somehow inferior or of poor quality.  This idea has overflowed into peoples lives to the point where people no longer save money over a long period of time in order to purchase big ticket items.  Instead they buy it on credit, and if they have room enough on credit cards they feel they can afford it.  This is why people live paycheck to paycheck.  Spending all and more of there income on servicing debt.

If on the other hand you start practicing delayed gratification saving money over a period of time to make large purchases you will find your interest payments will go down you will pay less for the items you want and you will have the savings or available credit necessary to maintain your lifestyle in the event of an emergency.

Open a savings account and put money into it until you have at least two months worth of income saved.  This will give you a two month buffer to solve the problem or overcome the emergency.  Living paycheck to paycheck is an expensive way to live.

4.       Review Your Credit Report Yearly

You are legally entitled to a free copy of your credit report from all three of the major credit reporting agencies every year.  Take advantage of that right and get your free copy every year.  Review it for errors as it is estimated that 80% of all credit reports contain errors which are detrimental to the overall score.  If you find items which you believe to be in error you can challenge them and unless the reporting agency can prove the report is valid they must remove it from your report.

Secondly reviewing our credit report will show you trends in your money habits.  Are you making the same mistake repeatedly?   Do you forget about payments you have set up?  Reviewing your report will tell you what things you are doing which have a negative effect your report and enable you to make positive changes.

5.       Get Involved with a Credit Repair Company

Up to now I have discussed habits and systems to help you improve your money habits.  These suggestions if followed will automatically cause your score to rise over a period of time, but if you are in a hurry to make drastic improvements then you will need the help of someone who has gone before you.

Depending on how fast you need results, how much time you have to dedicate to doing the actions necessary to get results, and your willingness to learn what you need to do and when will determine which product of service you use.

There are people who say that you can do all the same things which the credit repair companies do and it is true.  You have the legal right to do all the things which credit repair companies do to raise your score.   The difference is that they have done it before.  They know the methods which work and which ones have little effect.

No one would suggest that you defend yourself in a court of law even though you have all the same legal rights you would with legal counsel.  Yet your chances of success are exponentially higher for you if you retain a lawyer.

Why would it be any different when it comes to improving your credit?

Therefore if you need rapid results it is just common sense to either hire a professional or register for a guided program to help you achieve the results you need.
